The Mississauga Living Arts Centre has cancelled an event scheduled by Hizb ut-Tahrir!
A DogmaWatch contributor spoke to CEO Gerry Townsend:
“We have decided to cancel that particular contract [Hizb ut-Tahrir]. As you know, it is very difficult for us to know what any purpose of any organization is or what their plans are. But because there has been a bit of publicity about this organization we thought it was an inappropriate use of our premises.”
Mr. Townsend said that he had read the recent Mackenzie Institute article about the radical group:
While the event has been canceled, the ideology remains and needs to be challenged. However, publicly funded organization such as the Living Arts Centre shouldn’t permit the use of their space for unchallenged hateful propaganda.
Hizb-ut-Tahrir summary:
- Founded in Jerusalem in 1952 as a spinoff of the Muslim Brotherhood
- Seek to establish a global caliphate (Islamic State)
- Believe in Jihad warfare: “The meaning of Jihad being a duty of sufficiency is that we initiate the fighting of the enemy even if he did not attack us.” (archive)
- Believe Canadian soldiers are war criminals
“Let Britain, America, and the entire West go to hell, because the Caliphate is coming, Allah willing.” – Dr. Mohammed Malkawi
